LLC Resonant Converter

I'm working on the development of an LLC Resonant Half Bridge Converter. For the integration of the resonant inductor I’m looking for a 2-section bobbin for a ETD49 core. Can someone give me a hint where I can buy this bobbin?

I had to look that one up. There is a nice AP note here on the design of a LLC converter showing the use of a sectional bobbin.

http://www.fairchildsemi.com/an/AN/AN-4151.pdf

But as for the actual bobbin I have never seen one. However it may be fairly easy to modify a regular bobbin to include a partition. Find a flexible piece of plastic and put a hole in it the size of the bobbin core dimension and cut half way thru it. then bend it and force it over the bobbin and epoxy it in to place.

I do not think you will find a standard sectional bobbin because the position of the section will depend on the design power and frequency of the transformer, which dictates the size and number of winding’s.

2-section bobbin

Hi lupus,
I have been searching for a 2-section bobbin for EDT39.
Only found manufakturers in China.
For EDT34 there is one at MM-Elektronik.
I'll glue some pcb material to a normal bobbin.

Hi hilli_billi,
Thanks for your hints. I'm now in contact with the company Magnetica from Italy. They have some ETDxx 2-section bobbins.
Do you have any adress of MM-Elektronik ?
Best

Hi lupus,
I'm not shure if it's allowed to post adresses here, but since it is sometimes difficult for us hobbyists to buy magnetics etc. ...
http://www.spulen.com/shop/
It's a good source for cores, HF-wires, bobbins, isolation material,...
They have 'Schutzklasse Distanzringe' ( safety_class_system-spacer ?). Maybe that could be glued to a standard bobbin, to make a 2-section.

Hi together,
I'm just dissecting the trafo of a resonant converter, that I bought from China.
They took a 'Kabelbinder' (cable strap/tie) to build the two chamber bobbin.
Good idea, at least for prototype. This evenig I can build a replica trafo :)

Hi,
here a picture of the trafo.
I allready built a clone for test, nearly same (stray)inductivity.
Waiting for bobbins, cores, Wire...

Hello,
In order to learn and train the design of LLC Power Converters and to get experience of the behavior , I want to design a circuit board for evaluation different designs and output ratings; like a professional demo board ( but only similar).
The application: SMPS for multi rail audio power amplifiers.

The system incorporates:
- Main board with PFC Dual Interleaved front end and LLC resonant half bridge
- Daughter board for different PFC Controller
my favorites are: UCC28070, ADP1048. I had the opportunity to play with the adp1048 demo kit; it's works nice
- Daughter board for different LLC Controller
my favorites are: UCC25600, L6599, FAN7631
- space for different transformers sizes
- separate resonant inductor
- voltage, current and temperature monitoring
- regulated or non-regulated design
- inrush current control
- universal AC line-input voltage
- EMI filter
- and more......

I share my first schematic ( main board) and comments are highly welcome.
In the coming weeks I will be working on this project continues.

Your pdf file only has one schematic sheet. It has 2 fet drivers on it with no controller. Is this what you wanted to post?

Sorry, yes the pdf was not complete. Please try it again.
I'm now working on the daughter boards..

Reschpekt Lupus,
looks good. Why are you using two seperate power sections for the PFC ?
Why is the output section so complicated (4 windings).
Which controller do you want to begin with ?
Are there seperate daughterboards for PFC and LLC ?

hi hilli billi,
I want to test Interleaved PFC applications, so I need two power switches. I will start with ADP1048 (PFC) and UCC25600 (LLC) on seperate daughterboards.
For my first application, I need +/- 90V/11A and +/-45V/22A output voltage, so I guees I need 4 windings with different wire diameter ( or 2 windings , centre tapped , one diameter). Or do you have a better Idea ?

Hi Lupo,
depends on what you need.If you need only one at a time,... see the drawing.
Hope it's readable.
What is Interleaved PFC ?
