Thank you luchni

I also think TO-247 SMPS is interesting indeed. Post a question to him into his thread.

We are all learning every day!

ETD49 questions

I'd like to start building one of these power supplys for use with the Blame MKMIII Hx amp. A question I have about the ETD transformer. From RS I can buy the bobbin former. Also the cores.

Do I have to buy 2 of the cores? (are they sold as half cores or do you get 2 halfs from them?).

Also it says they have a "gapped" core and a "non gapped" core?

Do I need gapped or non gapped?

Do I need N27 type or N87 type?

Do I need metal clips to hold the cores together or use some kind of tape?

What type and thickness of wire is prefered to use with the transformer?

Thanks

Simon

2 cores, yes two halfs

non gapped

Do I need N27 type or N87 type?

Both will work, but N27 shown better results.

You will need clips, at least 2, but RS sells pack of 10 !
Mylar Tape, or any other similar one

You will need LITZ wire, 0.1 x 100 strand, but if you cannot find it, you can use 0.3mm x4 , read thread please.

Coil Voltage of RL1 is 12VDC

If you are building your first amplifier, i would suggest that you use a classic power supply, just a transformer, a rectifier bridge and filter capacitors. The price of a good classic PSU and this unit are about the same, but component availability isn't, and that's one of many problems for a DIY enthusiast. If you are new to electronics then start with simple things, as this is not a 'piece of cake' project even for an experienced builder.
Happy building and i hope your project comes to life :D

i order a toroid and capacitor for test my amp. but the cost is very high, the toroid 650va its about u$s100 and the capacitor needed the best price i get is u$s25 each 10000uF /100v
and i need 4
i am making five amps stereo with the av400 board. i get all really cheap but the power supply is more expensive than the amp itself.

i was planing to make 5 smps i was thinking that it would be cheap that conventional ps and it will be nice. because the great design that this guys do.

this is true, this SMPS may cost you around 100 ~120US$ may be much less, you have to check prices. for the 1200W version

Also inspect it carefully before you build it, and follow all instructions.

Read thread please

We are here to help

None of those wires will work, see note:-
(You are bidding on a 100 foot spool of brand new 60/44 Litz wire. This wire contains 60 strands of individually insulated AWG #44 (0.05 )

what you need is 0.1mm x 100 Strands at least, thats rare wire indeed and its expensive. around 3US$ per meter, 2.5 Euros.
you can use same method as Ludo. but if you can afford it its the best option, and the best
results.

So did Ludo make his own litz wire? or did he just get some 0.4mm copper enameled wire and twist 5 of them together to make a type of "home made" litz wire?

Could I use a single core 1mm copper enamelled wire? which I have spare or does it need to be spun with other cores as well?

Would you have a spare etd49 you have already made you are willing to sell for this purpose microsim?

Regards

Simon

Yes, Ludo made his own Litz, 0.4mm x5 strands, You can use 0.1mm x 10 strands.

Nop. its worst thing you will ever do. use the HOME MADE LITZ option, other wise wire will heat like hell, and higher losses

I really dont have ETD49 for sale, I only have 2 for testing, I think its much easier for you to buy it from RS ELECTRONICS, if you can.

Hello everybody !

Sorry for my english

Ok... so i decide to build this SMPS :D I post a picture on my pcb (not a very good quality)
I notice a little error on pcb in protect card area i need to replace pin 4 with pin 5. I reffer to pcb rev. 3.11. Please somebody corect me if i'm wrong
Few questions:
Can i use IRFP450 instead of IRFP460?
How to set up vr1 from protect card in order to work properly ?
Can i use socket for SG3525 and IR2110?

I'm not sure about that replacement... IRFP450 with 460. From looking at the datasheets and comparing them it became clear that even if one could use 450's you certainly can't count on 1kW of power.
I recommend using sockets, gold plated ones.

I was looking at some replacements and SiHS20N50 and similar (many prefixes from different companies like FDA, FDP, SiHG, SPW, but basically same device) are adequate replacements and are available as samples :D. What i wanna know is how critical is the Rds(on) value with this circuit and what component values would need to be changed if other mosfet's then IRFP460 are used? Also what other characteristics do potential builders need to look for when using replacements for IRFP's?

hello...everbody...

I want to thank everyone's patience ..., how to calculate resistor gate mosfet / IGBT??, how to calculate the dead-time in my smps, it depends on the frequency? example if I use 25KHz deadtime which is the best? how calcule with sg3525???, you can send me the mirror of the smps pdf v 3.11 ... grateful.

sorry my english.use google translator....lol...
