An ETD-59 core can give almost 9KW at 100 KHZ.

Many mfg make this core.

hmmm, 9kW? at 100khz? I am not sure if ETD59 will give more than 4KW (safe) at 100KHZ.

FYI, it will hit 100C under full load for 15 minutes, for music use it will. i saw LECO in other thread got around 5KW from that core, but for short periods.

you made any SMPS wally ?

Corvett, that 8KW is the maximum theoretical power from Pressmans SMPS book. I did not say you could actually wind it. You would have to use foil to get the most power from a core. But for music power you only have to be about 1/3 continuous power so 3KW will get you 9KW music power.

hi guys, i have these cores i think they're E65/62 cores can they work with a IGBT30n60d to produce over 5kw power? I found them in an old ups as inductors.
please help.

Stewin,

You will get 5KW from EE65 core, I assume that you have the bobbin for this core also.

One way of success is litz wire in order to get high power, also core/IGBTs is part of the success, beside the drive circuit.

Good luck

oops i dont have the bobin but i am planning to use ply wood 2mm to make bobin.

do i need to make 1mm gap??

Smps help

Hi Microsim
greetings well i built my first smps using this schematic and it WORKED first time on
want to increase power of this smps to about 2kw ihave used ETD 49 core these are the winding details

PRI WINDING 4 STRANDS OF 22 SWG TWISTED TOGETHER
SEC WINDING 5 STRANDS OF 22 SWG twisted together
MOSFET used IRF460

can IGBT IXCH32N60B be used instead of irf460 and ETD59 core in place of ETD49 and litz wire would these help in increasing power to 2kw this schematic works PERFECTLY just want little more power
from this schematic is it possible hoping you can help me SMPS not my cup of tea but this smps made me change my mind now trying to learn more about smps
warm regards
michelle:)

Hi Michelle.

I really dont know the core material, but 3F3 or 3C90 should be fine.

Regarding your question of getting 2KW, you will need ETD-59, and 1.5mm Litz wire (minimum)

See Leco SMPS, and a GOOD driving circuit, and High current IGBT like 30N60A4d

Hope that helps

3KW wont be an easy mission indeed, you have to start with 1KW, then raise the load slowly until you make sure that your SMPS is stable

And yes, yo can use 0.1x200, because i am not sure if 0.15x200 will fit when you wind it

Guys, im getting some problems whit this smsp, i build the transforme to get +-40v, but when i put a 47ohm resistor as load, the voltaje drops to +-30v, its this normal? i mean its only 1amp and drops 10v?

Any advice?

I am not sure about the exact reason for this, but if you answer below questions it may help me figure out.

1- Transformer you are using
2- Wire you are using
